Regular eye exams can detect numerous medical issues not just the need for glasses or contact lenses. During your routine exam the doctor can detect such health issues as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and amblyopia.
The number one reason for children doing poorly in school is that they have an undetected vision problem. Regular visits with the pediatrician do not detect most eye problems. Also remember that school eye screenings do not take the place of a comprehensive eye exam.
